Manuscript is a collaborative writing platform for researchers, graduate students, and academic authors. The product helps users write long-form, citation-backed work — thesis chapters, research papers, technical books, grant applications, and structured reports.
The differentiator is grounding: Manuscript queries academic databases (Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex, PubMed, PubMed Central, Crossref, Unpaywall, arXiv) to verify citations and pull primary sources, so the writing is backed by real papers rather than fabricated references. Wikimedia Commons supplies licensed diagrams. Users edit the document collaboratively (Y.js CRDT) and export to Word and PDF with editable math.
Citations are verified against the same databases university libraries use. We don't make references up — we look them up, fetch the PDF when it's open access, and cite the canonical metadata.
